One of the pillars of health and wellness is moving your body, and finding workouts that you love. Working out increasing blood flow, endorphins, strengthens your muscles, helps with balance, and increase focuses - all things that lead to a happier, healthier life. After a great work out, it's very important to replenish the body with good stuff so that all your hard work doesn't go to waste. We wanted to share some of our favorite post work-out snacks to inspire delicious, healthy living. After you workout, your muscles require protein and carbs to aid in speedy recovery and to help increase the impact of the exercise you just finished. Everybody has different needs and preferences when it comes to their pre and post-workout snacks, but here are a few of our faves!
Almond Butter & Banana on Rice Cakes
Almond butter (or your favorite nut butter) and banana on a brown rice cake is an ideal way to get in some extra fiber, without the empty carbs, and it will replenish your energy quickly. Drizzle honey or add chia seeds/flax seeds for extra flavor and love if you'd like.
Greek Yogurt, Fresh Berries & a sweet loren's cookie crumble
Protein makes sense after a workout, since it contains amino acids that help build muscle, and will give you energy. We love greek yogurt for the extra protein. If you want to stay a way from dairy, try some delicious coconut yogurts out there. Add some fresh fruit and some Sweet Loren's cookie crumbs for some carbohydrate-driven energy as well.
Whole-Grain Pita, Carrots & Hummus
Hummus gives you both carbs and protein, whereas whole grain pita has a slow-release energy. This snack will keep you fueled for hours! Adding some sprouts and avocado will make it extra delicious and healthy.
Omelet with Avocado
Eggs are packed with protein and nutrients, and avocados are filled with good-for-you fat. The perfect pair! I love to sprinkle some arugula on top as well, sprinkle with a tiny bit of sea salt/pepper.
Here's to great workouts you enjoy, and fueling up smartly after. Be sweet to yourself.
